Build Enterprise Apps with Power Apps Code Apps Step By Step shows you how to build one real application with Power Apps code apps, from an empty environment to a secured solution deployed to a second environment. It is for developers and Power Platform makers who want to write a code-first app that still runs inside the Power Platform, on Dataverse, with its security and deployment tools.

The app you build is a Microsoft 365 Message Center Tracker. Over eight modules you set up environments and solutions, model the data in Dataverse, scaffold and run the app locally, publish it, sync Microsoft Graph into Dataverse, build the user interface with a coding agent, secure it with security roles and move it to another environment. All 17 videos are free on YouTube and listed on the Power Apps code apps course page.

Who this course is for

  • Web developers who want to bring their own code into the Power Platform rather than building canvas apps.
  • Power Platform makers and developers moving from low-code to code-first apps.
  • Microsoft 365 and IT teams who want an internal tool, such as a message center tracker, that is secured and deployed properly.

The catalog marks it Intermediate. You should be comfortable writing code and have some familiarity with Power Platform. Every lab step is performed for real in a live tenant.

What you will learn

1. Foundations: code apps, environments and solutions (Module 1). Before you write any code, you set up where the app lives. Solutions are what let you move the app later, so starting with them avoids a painful rebuild at the end.

2. Data in Dataverse (Module 2). Model the Data in Dataverse designs the tables the tracker needs. This is one of the longer labs, because a good data model makes every later module simpler.

3. Developer workflow: scaffold, run locally, build and publish (Modules 3 and 4). You scaffold the app, run it on your own machine, then build, publish and share it. This is the everyday loop of a code app developer.

4. Real data from Microsoft Graph (Module 5). Sync Microsoft Graph into Dataverse & Connect the App is the longest lab in the course, at almost 27 minutes. It brings Microsoft 365 Message Center data into Dataverse and connects the app to it, which is what makes the tracker useful.

5. The user interface with a coding agent (Module 6). Build the Tracker UI with a Coding Agent shows how an AI coding agent can speed up front-end work while you stay in control of the result.

6. Security and deployment (Modules 7 and 8). Secure the App with Dataverse Security Roles controls who can see and change what. Move the Solution to Another Environment takes the finished solution to a second environment. These are the steps that make an app enterprise-ready rather than just a demo.

How the course is organised

There are 17 videos and about 2.4 hours in total:

  • Video 1: course overview.
  • Videos 2–17: eight modules, each with a short theory video (about 3–6 minutes) followed by a lab video in which every step is done live.

The labs get longer as the app grows. Modules 5, 7 and 8 are the heaviest. Because each module builds on the previous one, follow them in order.

How to study it step by step

  1. Watch the course overview to see the finished tracker before you start.
  2. For each module, watch the theory video first, then do the lab alongside the video, pausing as often as you need.
  3. Use a development environment for Modules 1–7. Module 8 moves the solution to another environment, so you will need two.
  4. After Module 2, sketch your table design on paper. It makes the Graph sync in Module 5 much easier to follow.
  5. In Module 6, review the coding agent’s output before you accept it, just as you would review a teammate’s code.
  6. After Module 7, test with a second user who has a different security role, to prove the roles work.
  7. Finish Module 8, then repeat the deployment once more on your own. Moving solutions is a skill worth practising.

This course currently has no Skills Pragati hands-on lab guide, practice simulation or mock exam.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Power Apps code apps course free?

Yes. All 17 videos are free on YouTube, and the course page lists the modules in order.

How long does it take?

About 2.4 hours of video. Doing every lab yourself takes much longer, so plan a week or two of steady sessions.

Do I need a Power Platform environment?

Yes, to follow the labs. The course performs every step in a live tenant, and the final module needs a second environment to deploy into.

Is this course for the PL-900 exam?

No. It has no exam code and is a hands-on build course. If you want the Power Platform fundamentals certification, see Microsoft Power Platform Step by Step (PL-900). For the admin side, see Power Platform Administration Step By Step.
