Microsoft Graph with PowerShell Step By Step teaches you to manage Microsoft 365 from the command line with the Microsoft Graph PowerShell module. It is for Microsoft 365 administrators and IT professionals who want to swap repetitive clicking in admin centres for scripts they can run, repeat and trust.

The course begins with installing the module and connecting to your tenant. It then covers users, bulk changes and app registration, adds the Graph API tools Postman and Graph Explorer, and finishes with a long run of real admin scenarios, from onboarding a user to cleaning up SharePoint site sprawl. All 28 videos are free on YouTube and listed on the Microsoft Graph PowerShell course page.

Who this course is for

  • Microsoft 365 administrators who want to script user, licence, group, Teams and Exchange tasks.
  • Helpdesk and IT operations staff who handle onboarding, offboarding and tickets and want a faster, repeatable method.
  • Developers new to Microsoft Graph who want to see the same API from PowerShell, Postman and Graph Explorer.

The catalog marks it Intermediate. Some basic PowerShell helps. If you are completely new to it, the Step By Step Mastering PowerShell course on Skills Pragati is a good warm-up.

What you will learn

1. Getting set up. Installing Microsoft Graph Module In PowerShell, Explore Commands Of Microsoft Graph In PowerShell and Connecting Retrieving And Managing M365 With Microsoft Graph using PowerShell get you from an empty console to a working connection. Learning to find the right command yourself is the skill that lasts.

2. Tenant, apps and users. M365 Tenant Information Retrieval, Application Registration In Microsoft Entra ID, M365 User Management Using PowerShell and Handle Bulk users in M365 cover the tasks you will run most often, and how to run them for many users at once.

3. The Graph API outside PowerShell. Configure Postman To Work With Microsoft Graph API, What is Microsoft Graph Explorer, Get User Logon Activity Using Graph API and Manage M365 Message Center Using Microsoft Graph API show the same API from other tools. This helps you test a call before you script it.

4. Identity and security scenarios. Onboarding and offboarding users, triaging helpdesk tickets, managing guest users, investigating a malicious app in Entra ID and rolling out Conditional Access and MFA. These are the jobs where a script saves the most time and prevents the most mistakes.

5. Collaboration and workload scenarios. Building a sales org, governing groups, auditing licences, auditing and cleaning up Intune devices, provisioning a Team from a template, managing the Teams lifecycle, provisioning Exchange Online recipients, resolving a mail flow incident, managing a Planner project and managing SharePoint site sprawl.

How the course is organised

There are 28 videos and about 5.8 hours in total:

  • Video 1: course introduction.
  • Videos 2–8: short foundation lessons (about 2–9 minutes each) on the module, connecting, tenant information, app registration and user management.
  • Videos 9–12: Graph API tools and examples with Postman and Graph Explorer.
  • Videos 13–28: the M365 Admin Series, 16 scenario videos of roughly 14–19 minutes, each built around one realistic admin task.

The foundations come first, and the scenarios can be watched in any order once the basics are in place.

How to study it step by step

  1. Use a test tenant, never production. Many scenarios create, change or remove users, groups and devices.
  2. Work through videos 2–8 in order and run every command yourself. Keep a personal notes file of the commands you use.
  3. Set up Postman and Graph Explorer in videos 9–10, and get into the habit of testing a call there before writing it into a script.
  4. Choose scenarios in the order you need them. If you onboard people every week, start with onboarding and offboarding. If licence cost is your worry, start with the licence audit.
  5. After each scenario, adapt the script to one small difference in your own environment, such as a different department, group or licence.
  6. Finish with the governance scenarios (groups, Teams lifecycle and SharePoint sprawl), which bring many earlier skills together.

This course currently has no Skills Pragati hands-on lab guide, practice simulation or mock exam.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Microsoft Graph PowerShell course free?

Yes. All 28 videos are free on YouTube. Start from the course page and follow the list in order.

How long does it take?

About 5.8 hours of video. The foundation lessons are short, while the admin scenarios run about a quarter of an hour each. With practice time, two to three weeks of regular study is realistic.

Do I need a Microsoft 365 tenant?

To do the steps yourself, yes, you need a tenant where you have admin rights. A test tenant is strongly recommended because the scenarios make real changes.

Does it cover identity concepts?

It uses them heavily, for example app registration, Conditional Access and MFA, but it does not teach the theory from scratch. For the concepts behind authentication, authorisation and OAuth 2.0, see Learn Step By Step Microsoft Identity Platform.
