The Claude Certified Associate Foundations course is a short, free course that prepares you for the Claude Certified Associate - Foundations credential. It is for professionals, business users and teams who use Claude in their daily work and want to get reliable, useful results from it, from writing a good prompt to putting one real process into production.

The whole course is 10 videos and under an hour long, so you can finish it in an evening and still have time to practise. This guide explains what each lesson teaches, why it matters and how to study it properly. The video list is on the Claude Certified Associate Foundations course page.

Who this course is for

This is a Foundational course, and no coding is needed. It suits you if:

  • You use Claude for writing, research, analysis or planning at work and want better, more consistent answers.
  • You lead a team that is starting to use Claude and need a shared way of working.
  • You care about checking output before you trust it, and about handling sensitive data responsibly.
  • You are preparing for the Claude Certified Associate - Foundations exam and want a quick, structured overview.

Developers who want to build applications on Claude should look at the Claude Certified Developer Foundations Course after this one.

What you will learn

The nine numbered lessons cover five practical themes.

1. Asking well. Prompt Anatomy and Task Decomposition shows what a good request is made of and how to break a large job into smaller steps Claude can handle well. This is the habit that improves almost every other result.

2. Judging the answer. Spotting What Is Wrong With a Good-Looking Answer teaches you not to trust fluent text just because it reads well. Being able to catch a confident but wrong answer is one of the most valuable skills for any AI user.

3. Getting the right output. Shaping Output for a Real Audience is about format, tone and length for the person who will actually read the result. Choosing the Product Feature and the Model helps you pick the right part of Claude and the right model for the task instead of using one setting for everything.

4. Working in a repeatable way. Designing the Workflow Around Claude and Projects, Instructions and Knowledge Sources move you from one-off chats to a set-up you can reuse, with instructions and reference material that stay in place.

5. Using Claude responsibly and fixing problems. Governance, Data Sensitivity and Responsible Use covers what you should and should not share and how to use AI safely at work. Troubleshooting Poor Output gives you a way to diagnose and fix weak answers.

The course ends with Capstone - Put One Real Process Into Production, which brings all of these ideas together on a single real task.

How the course is organised

There are 10 videos: a 3-minute overview followed by nine lessons of about 4 to 5 minutes each. The total is under one hour.

The order follows the way you would actually adopt Claude:

  • Lessons 01 to 04: the individual skills of asking, checking, shaping and choosing.
  • Lessons 05 and 06: turning those skills into a workflow and a reusable Project.
  • Lessons 07 and 08: responsible use and troubleshooting.
  • Lesson 09: the capstone, putting one real process into production.

How to study it step by step

  1. Watch the overview to see the whole path.
  2. Pick one real task from your own work before you start Lesson 01, for example a weekly report, a summary or a customer reply. You will use it throughout.
  3. After Lesson 01, rewrite your prompt for that task using the anatomy from the video, and split it into steps if it is large.
  4. After Lesson 02, check Claude’s answer to your task line by line. Note anything that sounds right but is not supported.
  5. After Lessons 03 and 04, adjust the output for its real reader and think about which feature and model suit the task.
  6. After Lessons 05 and 06, set up a reusable workflow for the task with clear instructions and the knowledge sources it needs.
  7. After Lessons 07 and 08, review what data you are sharing and practise fixing one poor answer.
  8. Do the capstone with your own task. By the end, you should have one process that you can run again next week.

You can also watch everything as a YouTube playlist. To go deeper on prompts, the Learn Prompt Engineering Step By Step course is a natural next step.
