The Claude Certified Architect Foundations course is a free, 38-video preparation course for the Claude Certified Architect - Foundations credential. It is for engineers and solution designers who want to learn how to plan agent systems with Claude: when an agent is the right answer, how to split the work, how to configure Claude Code and how to keep long, multi-agent runs reliable.

The whole course runs about 5.6 hours on YouTube. This guide explains what each part covers, the order to watch it in and how to turn the videos into real exam readiness. You can see the full video list on the Claude Certified Architect Foundations course page.

Who this course is for

The course is marked Foundational, but it is about architecture, not about typing your first prompt. It suits you if:

  • You already use Claude or another large language model and now need to design systems around it.
  • You are a developer or tech lead who has to decide whether a task needs an agent, a workflow or a single model call.
  • You use Claude Code and want to understand its configuration, commands, skills, subagents and automation in a structured way.
  • You are preparing for the Claude Certified Architect - Foundations exam and want a lesson-by-lesson path.

If you are brand new to Claude, the shorter Claude Certified Associate Foundations course is a gentler place to start.

What you will learn

The 37 numbered lessons group naturally into six themes.

1. The exam and the agent decision. Lesson 01, How This Exam Works, sets expectations. Lesson 02, Deciding Whether You Need an Agent, is the most important design habit in the course: not every problem needs an agent, and choosing the simpler option is often the right architecture.

2. Patterns for structuring work. Decomposition and Execution Patterns, Multi-Agent Topologies, The Agentic Loop and Subagent Spawning and Context Passing show how to break a large task into parts and how agents hand work to one another. Enforcement Gates and Structured Handoff and Error Propagation Across Multi-Agent Systems cover what happens when one step goes wrong.

3. Claude Code configuration. A large block of lessons covers the Claude Code Configuration Hierarchy, Commands, Skills and Subagents in Claude Code, Modular CLAUDE.md and the Memory Hierarchy, Skill and Command Frontmatter, Path-Specific Rules, Plan Mode versus Direct Execution and Agent SDK Hooks. This matters because most real Claude projects are shaped by these settings, not by a single prompt.

4. Prompts, output and tools. Prompt Engineering at System Scale, Structured Output and Evaluation, Tool Design Fundamentals, Built-in Tool Selection and MCP Integration Architecture teach you to design the interfaces Claude works through, so results are predictable and testable.

5. Context, state and long runs. Context Management, Session State, Resumption and Forking, Preserving Facts Across Long Conversations and Large Codebase Exploration and Crash Recovery deal with the practical limits of long sessions and big repositories.

6. Quality, review and trust. CI Output Contracts and Review Isolation, Explicit Criteria and False Positives, Batch Processing Strategy, Multi-Pass and Independent Review, Escalation and Ambiguity Resolution, Human Review and Confidence Calibration and Provenance and Conflicting Sources cover how to know when to trust an answer and when to bring a human in.

How the course is organised

There are 38 videos: a short overview, then lessons numbered 01 to 37. Most lessons are 6 to 13 minutes long, so each one is a single focused idea.

The order works like this:

  • Lessons 01 to 12 build the core: the exam, the agent decision, patterns, Claude Code, prompts, tools, MCP and context.
  • Lessons 13 and 14 are scenario labs: Customer Support Agent Under Constraints and Multi-Agent Research System. They apply the first twelve lessons to a realistic design problem.
  • Lessons 15 to 35 go deeper, one specific skill per video, from the agentic loop to provenance and conflicting sources.
  • Lessons 36 and 37 close the course with The Six Exam Scenarios (the longest lesson, about 17 minutes) and The Four Preparation Exercises.

How to study it step by step

  1. Watch the overview and Lesson 01 to see how the exam is approached and how the course maps to it.
  2. Take Lessons 02 to 12 in order, one or two a day. After each, write a two-line note: the decision the lesson teaches and when you would use it.
  3. Pause on the scenario labs (13 and 14). Before you watch the solution, sketch your own design on paper. Then compare it with the video.
  4. Work through Lessons 15 to 35 in small blocks. Group them by theme: Claude Code settings (18 to 24), review and quality (25 to 29), and long runs and trust (30 to 35).
  5. If you use Claude Code, try the configuration ideas in a test project as you watch, so the hierarchy and rules feel familiar rather than abstract.
  6. Finish with Lessons 36 and 37. Do the preparation exercises yourself, then revisit any lesson where your answer differed from the one in the video.
  7. Review your notes a few days later. The short lesson length makes it easy to re-watch only the parts you are unsure about.

The whole course is also available as a YouTube playlist.

When you are ready to go further, the Claude Certified Architect Professional Preparation Course covers architecture in much greater depth, and the Claude Certified Developer Foundations Course focuses on building with the API.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Claude Certified Architect Foundations course free?

Yes. All 38 videos are free on YouTube, and you can follow them in order from the course page or the playlist.

How long does the course take?

The videos add up to about 5.6 hours. Watching one or two lessons a day with notes, you can finish in a few weeks, including time to redo the scenario labs and preparation exercises.

Do I need Claude Code to follow along?

You can learn the ideas by watching. Several lessons are about Claude Code configuration, commands, skills, subagents and automation, so having Claude Code available lets you try those settings yourself, but you can understand the design choices without it.

Is there a practice test for this course?

There is no mock exam or practice simulation for this course on Skills Pragati yet. The course itself ends with The Six Exam Scenarios and The Four Preparation Exercises, which are the best way to check your readiness.
